The Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo and the Kipride Max showcase the new Kiprun lineup. Two complementary philosophies, with the Kipstorm line built for speed and Kipride for comfort.
The Kipstorm Tempo relies on Fastech+, a supercritical A-TPU foam, with a layer of compression-molded EVA (CMEVA) acting as a “fake plate” for stiffness and pop.
The Kipride Max uses the new Softech+ foam, a blend of EVA, Peba and OBC with no plate, designed for plushness and durability.
The feel is firmer on the Kipstorm, closer to plush on the Kipride. The Kipstorm is also much lighter, by about 45 g / 1.6 oz, and sits a bit higher off the ground. The ride is airy, with a short ground contact time.
The Kipstorm Tempo is built for long intervals and tempo workouts, recommended up to the half marathon. It makes less sense at slow paces. The Kipride Max strings together long runs up to the marathon and beyond, with impressive comfort, ideal for easy base miles.
Both uppers are excellent: a Sockfit knit with a sock-like fit on the Kipstorm, a heavily padded premium engineered mesh on the Kipride. Traction is reliable on both shoes, including on wet roads.
Kipstorm Tempo or Kipride Max: Which Should You Choose?
It’s not really a duel, the two complement each other.
The Kipstorm Tempo is made for fast workouts and racing up to the half marathon.
For a single pair, daily comfort and distance, go with the Kipride Max: it’s one of the best maximalist shoes on the market. The duo also makes a complete, reliable rotation on a very reasonable budget.
