Kiprun Kipride Max Review: Does the Maximum Comfort Last? (2026)

Gone are the days when the Kiprun brand, owned by Decathlon, was considered a “low-cost” option with inferior performance. The KD series has clearly established the brand among the industry leaders, and since then, the shoes have become increasingly high-quality.

The Kiprun Kipride Max fits perfectly into this category: it’s the “maximalist” version of the standard Kipride. Does it measure up to its maximalist competitors? Is it a good fit for your running profile and goals? That’s what we’ll find out in this comprehensive review.

Our verdict

Cushioning: The New Softech+ Foam (EVA, Peba, and OBC)

For the midsole, the brand is introducing a new foam: Softech+. It does not incorporate a plate, but its composition is complex, consisting of three components.

• EVA: a fairly standard material that has long proven its durability and provides firmness and stability to the mixture.
• Peba: a more modern foam found in many models with a carbon plate. It offers a plush feel and good bounce.
• OBC (olefin block copolymers): a foam known for helping shoes regain their shape more quickly, with excellent durability.

The combination of these three elements delivers a very well-balanced feel at impact, leaning more toward a plush feel, for an enjoyable ride. The brand claims a 34% increase in cushioning compared to the KS 900 V2, and 69% energy return.

In practice, it's not easy to verify these values precisely. But the 42 mm under the heel and the 36 mm under the forefoot ensure excellent shock absorption. The generous cushioning allows you to run longer, whatever the race distance.

There are no restrictions regarding your profile or weight. The protection allows you to extend your distance up to a marathon, or even beyond. The only limiting factor might be the feel upon impact, depending on your preferences.

I bet it'll be a good fit for a lot of runners. The only real limitation is the 6 mm heel-to-toe drop. While it offers excellent protection for midfoot or forefoot strikers, it’s slightly below the industry standard (8-10 mm) and may require some time to adjust to.

Energy Return: Peba Makes a Difference

The shoe has a weight of 271 g / 9.6 oz in a US 9 (EU 42): it's not exactly lightweight. However, it holds its own, weighing less than most of its direct competitors, largely thanks to the inclusion of Peba in the midsole.

I haven't run in the Kiprun KS 900 V2, so I can't comment on the performance benefits claimed by the brand. However, I can compare its responsiveness to other iconic models in the category, such as the Hoka Clifton 11 or the Nike Vomero 18.

There's no contest: the responsiveness is clearly better than on both of those shoes. Keep in mind, though, that it obviously can't be compared to the carbon rockets, or even to a Kipstorm Tempo.

The responsiveness makes accelerating a pleasure: you can cover a wide range of paces during training, from an easy run to tempo runs. The rocker is subtle, but it still ensures smooth transitions.

Support and Stability: A Wide, Secure Platform

The shoe is designed for neutral runners and does not feature any technology to stabilize your stride. Given its high stack height, there was some concern about instability.

That is clearly not the case: the platform is wide and provides reliable support. Stability is therefore standard, and the ride is completely safe.

Foot Lockdown: A Premium Upper Among the Best

I remember my review of the Kiprun KS 900 in 2022, the brand's first foray into the premium segment. The result was already good, but at the time I felt the upper wasn't of the highest quality.

Looking at the engineered mesh on this model, a true marvel of technology, those days feel long gone. Before I go into more detail, I want to start by describing how it feels when you put it on: it’s like slipping into a pair of plush slippers.

The comfort is simply impressive. It feels so good on your feet, thanks to the ample padding, that it's very easy to wear it for hours on end, whether you're walking long distances or just going about your daily routine.

Breathability is excellent: the numerous perforations and micro-perforations keep the air flowing. It also provides adequate warmth in cold weather, no matter the conditions.

The fit has been very carefully designed. From the 360° collar construction and the 3D Knit mesh tongue to the Fitting Sniper technology that precisely wraps around the foot, it’s clear that the design of the Warp Knit upper (woven knit) was the result of extensive work.

It is stretchy, and the upper's weave allows the foot to fit comfortably, without pressure or constriction. The overall construction is solid, with side reinforcements.

The heel counter, which is fairly flexible, is well-made: it provides good support, and the heel stays securely in place. The padding in this area is very generous.

The tongue features a gusset design: it prevents slipping and enhances lockdown. The lacing system with side tabs works brilliantly: the Fitting Sniper system allows you to adjust the fit very quickly.

In short, the upper is of outstanding quality, certainly one of the best on the market. This is remarkable at this price point.

Sizing and Fit

The toe box is more open and even more stretchy, which I really liked. But (there had to be a “but”) this is also where I noted a few minor comments: some testers with narrow feet found that there was actually too much space.

I'm in a pretty good position to judge: I'm often between two sizes with Kiprun. With this Kipride, the fit is so flexible that I can wear either size (I went to try on the next size up in the store).

Keep in mind, however, that there may be a difference compared to other brands. If in doubt, it's best to try it on in the store.

Traction: Dependable, Though Not Ideal on Wet Surfaces

The outsole features a wide layer of outsole rubber in the impact zones, with the foam exposed in the remaining areas. This rubber isn't too hard: the shoe remains quite soft upon impact.

Traction is very good: grippy and reliable. On wet-surface grip specifically, some testers found it less dependable. I didn't notice this myself; I found this to be pretty standard.

The longitudinal groove and small notches give the sole good flexibility. As a great training partner, this road shoe will perform well on most standard trails, as long as they aren't too technical.

Who Is This for, and for Which Workouts?

I was watching a Belgian video in which the reviewer said that the Kiprun Kipride Max is the most comfortable and plush shoe he's ever worn. I've tried just about every shoe out there, and I'm not sure I'd go that far.

But the shoe is clearly impressive in terms of comfort, on par with or better than many of its competitors, at a competitive price. The plush feel, without being excessive, also makes running an enjoyable ride.

As I mentioned earlier, shock absorption allows you to run any distance, all the way to a marathon and beyond.

Long runs are a pleasure, and you can keep the shoe on for hours on end. There are no restrictions, regardless of your weight or skill level. The only thing to watch out for is the 6-mm drop, which requires caution for beginners or those who aren't used to it.

Like with other shoes in this category, I expected limited responsiveness. That’s clearly not the case: I was able to pick up the pace without any trouble across a wide range of paces.

The Peba fully plays its part: the shoe is a real pleasure at tempo paces or on marathon-pace segments built into long runs. That makes it seriously versatile for your daily training.

Obviously, you shouldn't expect energy return comparable to that of shoes with carbon plates. If you're looking for a shoe designed for speed, the Kipride Max won't be ideal for workouts like 10 x 400 m.

The same goes for racing: you'll find models that perform better in shorter distances, and even in marathons, such as the excellent Kiprun Kipstorm Lab.

Still, this shoe can be an excellent choice for a marathon if you prioritize comfort over performance, or if you don't want the stiffness of a plate.

Quality and Lifespan: 800 to 1,000 km (as Advertised)

As is often the case, the brand sets the bar high and promises a lifespan of 800 to 1,000 km. With the many pairs I’m testing, it’ll take me a while to reach that milestone, so I won’t make any promises about this model, but I’ve already pushed other Kiprun models past that mark.

The brand conducts a wide range of laboratory tests and carries out extensive field testing before a product is released. You can count on them in this regard. The value for money is excellent, it would be hard to find a better deal.

The shoe is not vegan. The mesh on the upper is made almost entirely (98%) from recycled materials.

Kiprun Kipride Max: Is It a Good Buy?

The Kiprun Kipride Max is a very high-quality model that ranks among the best shoes in terms of comfort, protection, and maximum cushioning. That’s already very impressive, and it’s even more so when you consider how competitive the price stays against its direct rivals.

For pure speed or racing, other models will perform better. If you prioritize comfort, whether for marathons or everyday use, this is one of the best options available right now.
