Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo vs Asics Superblast 3: Which One? (2026 Comparison)

Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo vs Asics Superblast 3

The Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo and the Asics Superblast 3 play in the same league: training “super shoes” with plenty of modern foam and no plate. The difference that jumps out is elsewhere: the Superblast 3 is noticeably pricier, about $40 more.

Both bet on the best foams around. The Kipstorm Tempo uses Fastech+, a supercritical A-TPU, paired with a CMEVA layer that acts as a “fake plate”. The Superblast 3 combines FF Leap, the foam of the racing Metaspeed line, with FF Blast+, which brings firmness and stability.

Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo

Both midsoles are massive, with the same drop, and the Superblast sits a bit higher off the ground. On the scale, it’s the same weight. The feel differs though: the Kipstorm Tempo is firmer, while the Superblast is balanced and leans plush, with impressive shock absorption.

The Superblast 3 works for all distances, in training and racing alike. The Kipstorm Tempo is recommended up to the half marathon: it’s built for long intervals and tempo workouts, with propulsion that really works and a short ground contact time.

On the upper side, the Kiprun’s Sockfit knit gives an impressively comfortable sock-like fit. The Superblast’s upper is also excellent, comfortable and breathable. Traction is very good on both.

Kipstorm Tempo or Superblast 3: Which Should You Choose?

The choice is first a question of budget, and it should be said plainly: the Kipstorm Tempo delivers a comparable level of performance for noticeably less money. If you want a pair dedicated to fast workouts, it’s the one to get.

It is limited on distance though, and best suited to the half marathon.

The Superblast 3 remains the benchmark among super trainers: more comfortable and more versatile on distance, since you can push comfortably all the way to the marathon. It’s the best choice if budget isn’t a concern.
