Asics Megablast vs Superblast 3: Which One? (2026 Comparison)

Asics Megablast vs Asics Superblast 3

The Asics Megablast and the Asics Superblast 3 are two premium super trainers from the Japanese brand: max cushion, no plate, and a new-generation A-TPU foam. Two very close models, built for training as much as racing, close enough that choosing between them is genuinely hard.

Dimensions are XXL on both sides. The Superblast 3 tops out at 46.5 / 38.5 mm of stack, barely more than the 45 / 37 mm of the Megablast. Both share an 8 mm drop and go without a plate. On weight, the Megablast is the lighter one, at 218 g / 7.7 oz versus 227 g / 8.0 oz for the Superblast 3.

The difference mostly plays out in the midsole. The Megablast bets on a single foam, FlyteFoam Turbo², an A-TPU that Asics presents as its bounciest. The Superblast 3 stacks two foams: FF Leap (the brand’s fastest, the one in the Metaspeed racers) on top, and FF Blast+ underneath for firmness and stability.

Asics Megablast comparison with Superblast

The result is similar: a very well balanced feel, leaning plush, with impressive shock absorption and a very fun ride. The Superblast 3 wins on comfort (we score it 10/10 on that criterion), while the Megablast is a hair lighter and more responsive. Both can go the distance up to the marathon — they have their place on race day if you’re chasing a PB.

Both engineered mesh uppers are excellent, comfortable and breathable, though the Megablast is a bit more finicky when it comes to fit. Lastly, the ASICSGRIP rubber outsole delivers very good traction for both shoes.

Megablast or Superblast 3: which should you choose?

We awarded a 9.5/10 to both models, so there is no wrong pick.

For the majority of runners, the Superblast 3 remains our reference: maximum comfort, huge versatility and the dual-foam setup make it ready for any distance. It’s simply one of the best super trainers on the market.

Asics Superblast 3 comparison

The Megablast is the choice for those who want the lighter, more responsive model of the two. A bit more responsive when you accelerate, it clearly has a place in racing, as long as you accept a higher price and a fit that doesn’t suit everyone.

That leaves price: the Superblast 3 costs about $15 less, is more comfortable and at least as versatile. It offers the better value. The Megablast is for those who value lightweightness and responsiveness first.
