Nike Alphafly 3 vs Zoom Fly 6 (2026 Comparison)

Nike Alphafly 3 vs Nike Zoom Fly 6

The Nike Alphafly 3 and the Nike Zoom Fly 6 share Nike’s carbon DNA, ZoomX foam and FlyPlate, but they don’t target the same use.

The Alphafly 3 is the ultimate racing shoe, built to break records over the marathon. The Zoom Fly 6 is the versatile super shoe, designed as much for training as for racing.

The Alphafly 3 is the lighter one: 196 g / 6.9 oz versus 238 g / 8.4 oz for the Zoom Fly 6. The heavier Zoom Fly is also the taller of the two, with a 42 / 34 mm stack (the highest in the Nike Racing lineup) against 40 / 32 mm for the Alphafly. Both share an 8 mm drop.

Underfoot, both combine ZoomX foam and a carbon FlyPlate. The Alphafly 3 adds two Air Zoom units in the forefoot, which reinforce the bounce and deliver very strong propulsion. The Zoom Fly 6 slips a second, firmer foam (SR02) under the plate, to gain stability and durability. The result is very well balanced, genuinely fun to run in, with no distance limit in training.

This is where the two really split. The Alphafly 3 is a pure racing shoe: Nike aims it at the marathon, and its maximum cushioning combined with its propulsion makes it a formidable performance tool for fast runners. The Zoom Fly 6 aims much wider: easy run, long run, workout or race, it covers every pace and every distance, more approachable and more durable.

Both woven mesh uppers are light, breathable and comfortable. They also share the same watch-out, the durability of the ZoomX foam, which wears faster on the Alphafly given its ultralight racing construction (many runners don’t get past 300 km, about 185 miles, with it).

Alphafly 3 or Zoom Fly 6: which should you choose?

For most runners, the Zoom Fly 6 is the smarter pick. It does almost everything: it soaks up training miles, and its propulsion is enough to push the pace on race day. One versatile pair to train and race.

The Alphafly 3 costs about $115 more, and it is the rocket for your race day. It is lighter, more cushioned and more explosive; in short, built for chasing a marathon time. It is an excellent choice if you are a fast, experienced runner after the ultimate performance tool. But you have to accept its high price and its poor durability, which add up to very poor value for money (even for a carbon shoe).
