Nike Vomero 17 vs Pegasus 40: Which One? (2024 Comparison)

These two flagship shoes in the Nike series are positioned differently.

The Nike Vomero 17 is designed to offer a more stable run, despite being a neutral shoe like the Pegasus 40. As such, it features a wider platform to better guide the foot while running.

The Vomero 17 also offers greater cushioning with its thicker sole of 39 mm heel stack height versus 33 mm for the Pegasus 40. All in all, this makes it better suited to longer distances, although the Pegasus also does very well in this respect.

In both cases, the heel-to-toe drop is standard with 10 mm.

Next, the Vomero 17 uses use ZoomX, the latest, more responsive foam from the American brand, while the Pegasus still features React. The latter technology is a bit dated but, in practice, the Pegasus is a little more responsive. The difference is not so obvious, so it can vary from one runner to another.

In terms of underfoot feel, the Vomero is softer, while the Pegasus appears firmer underfoot.

Finally, the Vomero’s footbed is softer, giving a comfort-oriented lockdown. The Pegasus upper, on the other hand, offers a tighter, performance-oriented lockdown.

Vomero or Pegasus: Which One Should You Pick?

Overall, the Pegasus appears more versatile, with its more responsive cushioning for speed sessions.

However, runners who prefer more cushioning and comfort (with a softer feel and ample lockdown) will opt for the Vomero, which is superior in this respect. Also, both models weigh roughly the same (in the past, the Pegasus was lighter).

Last but not least, the Vomero is renowned for its durability and robust design, making it particularly well-suited to heavier runners.
