The Hoka Clifton 11 is much lighter than the Hoka Bondi 9, with a difference of nearly 30 g (1.1 oz).
Cushioning is similar: the Bondi has just 1 mm more stack under the heel (43 mm versus 42 mm for the Clifton 11).
In 2025 the Clifton moved to a more standard drop of 8 mm, from 5 mm before, while the Bondi stays at a low drop of 5 mm. That difference also translates into more cushioning underfoot for the Bondi.
The cushioning-to-weight ratio, though, clearly favors the Clifton.
Cushioning
The Clifton 11’s cushioning is (a bit) more responsive, which makes the ride feel smoother and lets you take on tempo sessions. Despite its supercritical foam, the Bondi is clearly not a responsive model.
Both shoes have comfortable cushioning with a balanced feel underfoot (they suit easy to moderate paces well). They are also ideal running shoes for your recovery days.
The Clifton 11 is a bit more at ease when the pace picks up, but it’s not Hoka’s most responsive model for intervals (the Mach, standard or in its X version with a nylon plate, is more agile and more enjoyable for speed).
Fit
Both shoes offer a comfortable, fairly roomy fit (even too roomy on the Clifton if you have narrow feet).
The Bondi’s fit does not convince everyone, which makes it harder to recommend across the board than the Clifton.
Clifton or Bondi: which should you choose?
Our clear advice is to go for the Hoka Clifton 11 for its greater versatility, which lets you enjoy any type of run.
That said, the Bondi is still worth considering if you want slightly softer cushioning for your long runs and recovery days.
Overall, neither option really gets us excited. Take a look at the Asics Superblast 3 or the Nike Vomero 18, which offer just as much cushioning (if not more) with a far more fun ride.
I found the Clifton lost durability under foot after a month. Is Runcorn or Arahi longer lasting sole. Bondi 8 way too soft. Pulling my leg muscles.
Hey Patricia, I would check out the Hoka Mach 5 or 6 if you’re concerned about a too-soft midsole impacting durability. The Mach is firmer with more structure so it’s quite sturdy overall. Best, Kevin
