Asics GT-1000 13 vs Gel Kayano 31 (2025 Comparison)

The Asics GT-1000 13 and the Gel Kayano 31 are stability shoes. But the first is an entry-level model, which means it is cheaper and more basic, while the second is the best in the Asics series for overpronation.

This is immediately apparent in terms of technology: the Kayano has premium FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam, while the GT 1000 13 makes do with FlyteFoam.

With a heel height of 40 mm compared to 33.5 mm for the GT-1000 13, the Kayano offers superior shock absorption. It feels balanced and offers good comfort for long distances. Conversely, the GT-1000 13 is firmer, which can be uncomfortable for long runs.

In terms of bounce, the GT-1000 13 clearly lacks punch, being more oriented towards stability than responsiveness. The Kayano 31, although heavier (about 30 g more), manages to combine stability and decent responsiveness.

Foot lockdown is where the Kayano shines: its ultra-comfortable, well-fitting mesh upper is perfect for long sessions. The GT-1000 13 is just as comfortable but offers a less padded fit.

In terms of use, the GT-1000 13 is designed for daily training over short or even intermediate distances. The Kayano 31, on the other hand, will allow you to extend the distance to the marathon without any worries.

GT-1000 13 or Kayano 31: Which One Is for You?

The choice between these two models depends above all on your budget.

The GT-1000 13 is a durable option for a first stability model to use for your daily training.

However, if you need comfort over long distances and more responsiveness, then the Gel Kayano 31 is the ideal choice.
