The Salomon Genesis and the Salomon S/Lab Genesis share the same trail platform, but they do not play in the same league. The Genesis is the forgiving all-rounder, cut out for every terrain and every outing. The S/Lab Genesis is its performance version, lightened and sharpened for racing and experienced runners.
The S/Lab Genesis is lighter and lower: 25 g / 0.9 oz and 4 mm less in weight and height.
The drop is standard (8 mm) on both models.
Underfoot, the Genesis counts on its Energy Foam, balanced between soft and firm, with very good shock absorption for piling on the miles. The S/Lab Genesis moves to Energy Surge, a lighter, more responsive foam built to pick up the pace and hold it in races.
On grip, both wear the same All Terrain Contagrip rubber with 4.5 mm lugs that bite on most surfaces, technical ones included. Grip is not what separates them: it is a shared strength, inherited from Salomon’s trail DNA.
Both uppers rely on the same premium Matryx mesh, woven with aramid threads, and on the house Quicklace system: lockdown is high quality on both sides. The S/Lab Genesis adds race-focused elements, an internal EndoFit sleeve that locks the foot in, an integrated gaiter and a toe bumper for technical terrain.
Genesis or S/Lab Genesis: Which Should You Choose?
For most trail runners, it is the Genesis: it does everything without breaking the bank, and its extra cushioning lets you handle real training volume.
The S/Lab Genesis only makes sense if you run for performance and accept paying noticeably more for Salomon’s very best.
In short, the Genesis for versatility, the S/Lab for racing.
