Saucony Guide 14 Review Analysis (2021)

Last update: April 2024

The Saucony Guide 14 is a very good comfortable and modern stability running shoe.

The Consensus

9.2Overall score
A very good, comfortable, and sturdy model with more pep than your average support shoe
The Saucony Guide is the flagship model of Saucony’s stability range alongside the Hurricane. This new version 14 comes with a modern and sleek design.

The heel stack height is 33 mm, while the forefoot stack height is 25 mm (8 mm drop). The midsole uses the PWRRUN foam reputed for its comfort. On the Guide 14, testers note that it provides moderately firm, comfortable, and smooth cushioning that lends itself well to slow, moderate paces. At 10.5 oz/298 g (M) and 9.3 oz/264 g (F), the weight is a bit high for a traditional trainer but acceptable for a stability shoe. Indeed, this type of shoe is equipped with additional features to guide the foot movement, making them heavier. In this regard, the Guide 14 doesn’t do too badly with its TPU Guidance Frame. The correction is moderate, according to the runners. Therefore, it may also be suitable for people who have a “normal” gait but prefer a stable model with more support. For this purpose, the platform is wide for better balance. The Guide 14 is a swift model overall, although, of course, it’s better suited for daily training than speed.

Then, the upper is comfortable and provides a precise foot lockdown. The only negative point mentioned by testers is its thickness, limiting ventilation, and pliability without being a significant problem. Finally, the outsole uses a good amount of rubber for optimal wear resistance.

In summary, the Saucony Guide 14 is a very good option for runners with overpronation looking for a stable and comfortable model with a touch of bounce. A reference model in its category.

Comparisons – Saucony Guide 14 vs.:

Saucony Ride 14

These two shoes are very similar, especially in terms of stack height and heel-to-toe drop. However, the Ride is a neutral running shoe, while the Guide 14 is a support shoe for overpronation. Thus, the Guide 14 contains a frame to guide the foot’s motion, which makes the shoe a little heavier. Finally, it’s good to note that the cushioning of the Ride is softer. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is this road running shoe true to size?

Yes, we haven’t yet seen comments from athletes suggesting that the fit is tricky. Therefore, you can purchase your regular size for running shoes. However, if this your very first pair of Saucony shoes, it’s advisable to try them on in a shop to be sure.

Is this shoe recommended for overpronators?

Yes, this shoe is a stability shoe so it’s specially aimed at preventing an excessive outward movement of your foot while running (pronation). In any case, it’s important to note that there’s no empirical data proving that stability running shoes are a better choice than neutral shoes to decrease the risk of injury. Consequently, we recommend that you select your running shoes according to their comfort, the most important criterion. TLDR: you can use the Saucony Guide 14 independently from your type of pronation, as long as they are comfortable.

Is this shoe adapted if I’m a heavy runner?

Yes, this model should be adapted even if you’re a heavyweight runner. Indeed, The Saucony Guide 14 has a heel stack height of 33 mm, which is enough cushioning for most athletes, so it should be safe regardless of your weight.

Is the Saucony Guide 14 recommended to run a marathon?

This Saucony running shoe is perfectly suited for different types of training and distances. So you can use it for your daily sessions of all types. As for the marathon, there’s no particular recommendation. Above all, you should rely on how you feel. If you can run comfortably with these shoes during your long runs over several months, then there should be no worries. However, this model is a bit bulky, not ideal if you plan to run fast.
