The Nike React Miler is back with its second model, using the same cushioning and design as its predecessor. While a very similar shoe to the original Miler, the 2 features a redesigned upper for less bulk. The model also boasts breathability, durability, and security on long runs.

With Nike React technology used for the shoe’s midsole, the Miler 2 provides a comfortable and smooth ride. Although the energy return is not exceptional, runners reported stellar cushioning for long runs and good arch support from the midsole design. These two elements helped maintain endurance and prevent strains. While the shoe is not a stability mode, it delivers a supportive ride throughout. The redesigned upper is less bulky, crafted with lightweight mesh that allows feet to breathe. However, at 312 g/11.3 oz (M), the M2 is not exactly light (if you’re looking for a more agile shoe, the Invincible Run might be just what you need). Finally, the outsole of the Miler 2 is highly durable and offers solid traction on various urban terrains. Nike uses high-abrasion rubber on the areas that experience the most wear.

Runners who purchased the Miler 2 were overwhelmingly satisfied with their experience, reporting strong foot security and great midsole comfort. The trainer’s coloration also received high marks—an attractive combination of gray, black, and reflective chartreuse, extending high nighttime visibility. The downside of the shoe? Runners reported an overall narrow design that ran on the small side, primarily through the toe box. Also, for some, the generous cushioning was too much and added a bulky feel to this already heavy trainer.

The Consensus

The Nike React Miler 2 will be a solid trainer for those who love highly-cushioned, secure rides. It retails for a pretty standard price for a trainer of its kind and is a good option for long-distance runners despite its narrow fit and bulky design.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does this model fit true to size?

Yes, the M2 fits true to size. However, some reviewers noted that it’s a bit narrow, especially around the toes. You may try to go for a half size bigger but, in general, we would recommend you to pick another model if you have wider feet.

I have overpronation. Can I run in these shoes?

Yes, this model should be suitable for everyone. Indeed, it’s a neutral running shoe. Therefore, it aims to suit all athletes independently from their type of pronation. It’s not equipped with stability props to guide the movement and reduce overpronation. In any case, it’s important to note that stability running shoe models are not superior to neutral shoes to prevent injury. Consequently, we recommend you select your shoes according to their comfort, as it is the most crucial criterion.

Is this shoe recommended for people who are heavy (more than 198 lbs/90 kg)?

Yes, these shoes are a good fit, even if you’re a heavyweight runner. Indeed, The Nike React Miler 2 has a 31 mm heel stack height, which is enough cushioning for most athletes, so it should be safe to run with it regardless of how much you weigh.

Is this model adapted to run a marathon?

First of all, let’s note that the essential criterion to determine what shoes to run with during your marathon competition is your personal preference. In theory, any running shoe could do. Nonetheless, some runners prefer running shoes with comfortable cushioning for long distances. The Nike React Miler 2 has a 31 mm stack height, making it an excellent choice to run long comfortably.

1 thought on “Nike React Miler 2”

  1. I finally ended my search for the right long-run shoe with the Miler 2. For a heavy runner who needs good cushioning and a durable outsole, I found this to be perfect for my relaxed long runs and recovery runs. The occasional turn of pace was decent as the upper helped to secure my foot down. The trampolining effect of the midsole helped in transition and the feeling of bottomless cushioning.

    Pros:
    Smooth transition for heel or mid foot striking;
    bouncy and consistent cushioning over distances and over the length of the shoe;
    durable compounds used in outsole which has a large hard rubber heel piece;
    adequate toe box

    Cons:
    Slightly bulky;
    comes with short laces that need changing if a good fit and runner’s loop are required
