Very good stability road shoe: comfortable and stylish
The Nike Air Zoom Winflo 6 is a stability road shoe. This 2019 version embraces the bold new tapered design of the Nike running shoe range. The shoe looks just like the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 except for its much heavier weight: 312 grams for men and 255 grams for women. Indeed, the Winflo 6 has stability features that make it somewhat heavier. It should be noted that the effectiveness of this type of correction in reducing the risk of injury is not proven by science (read our article for more information). These stability technologies can nevertheless be comfortable in some cases, which is the most important criterion when choosing running shoes. Overall, the Nike Air Zoom Winflo 6 offers great comfort which can make it a shoe of choice if you find the support of the Pegasus insufficient. It's a versatile shoe that will suit all types of workouts. In short, a very good road shoe for runners who are looking to stabilise their overpronation.
The outsole of the Nike Air Zoom Winflo 6 is made of rubber. This protects the midsole from the abrasive nature of asphalt. The lateral side of this outsole has grooves that allow for smooth and flexible transitions with every stride. Finally, the medial side of the midsole is covered with arrow-shaped studs that improve traction and movement control.
Cushlon is a cushioning material present along the entire length of the shoe that combines Phylon foam and rubber. The purpose of this technology is to ensure a comfortable and responsive ride over the long term. In addition, the midsole and heel are raised to act as stabilizing elements to prevent overpronation or instability of the foot while running.
Moreover, the Zoom Air technology consists of a small unit made of malleable plastic. Compressed air fills this unit to act like a bouncing pad. The midsole of the Winflo 6 Air Zoom includes two Zoom Air units: one in the forefoot and one in the heel.
Finally, an insole completes the cushioning of the shoe.
The upper outer part of the Nike Air Zoom Winflo 6 is an engineered mesh. This material harmoniously envelops the foot with its no-frills simple design. In addition, its criss-cross design ensures good elasticity while maintaining its structural integrity. Also, holes allow air to enter the shoe and keep the foot cool and dry.
In addition, the inner sleeve uses a soft textile to avoid friction and irritation. This feature allows those who wish to wear the shoe without putting on socks.
Finally, fine overlays decorate the sides of the upper. These almost invisible elements are intended to maintain the structure and, in combination with the lacing system, hold the foot in place.
Is the Nike Air Zoom Winflo 6 suitable for overpronation?
These shoes are designed to stabilize the foot during running and prevent excessive pronation. Thus, this shoe is intended to help runners with overpronation stabilize the movement of their foot. Nevertheless, it should be noted that for the moment there is no scientific evidence to recommend this type of shoe over neutral shoes to avoid injuries. We therefore advise to choose comfortable shoes first and foremost.
How do these shoes fit?
The Winflo 6 runs true to size. Therefore, it corresponds to the size indicated by the brand and you can order your regular size. Be careful though: several athletes have noticed that this model fits a little tightly. If you have rather wide feet, it can be useful to go to the store to try these shoes on before buying them.
Both models are stability road shoes, but they have slightly different cushioning. The first uses Cushlon foam while the second uses Lunarlon foam. The Winflo 6 has softer cushioning while the LunarGlide has firmer cushioning. It’s all a matter of taste. However, it should be noted that the Winflo 6 is heavier than the LunarGlide 9.
Nike Air Zoom Winflo 6 vs Asics Gel Kayano 26
The Kayano 26 is also a shoe for overpronation. However, it is a premium shoe with a slightly higher price than the Winflo. For the rest, both models have an equivalent configuration in terms of weight, sole stack height and drop.
