Saucony Endorphin Shift 3 vs. Triumph 21 (2024 Comparison)

saucony endorphin shift 3 vs triumph 21

Very similar at first glance (high stack, daily trainers), these two Saucony flagship shoes have notable differences.

First of all, if the cushion of the Triumph is generous (37 mm heel stack height), the Shift 3 goes even beyond, with 39 mm! Also, the drop is lower (4 mm vs. 10 mm for the Triumph), which gives a particularly well-padded forefoot for the Shift.

The underfoot feel is fairly soft on both shoes. The first two Endorphin Shifts were a bit firm, but Saucony adjusted the cushion to deliver more comfort. However, the result is less structure–we can’t have it all!

The Shift and the Triumph are ideal for daily training, long runs, and recovery sessions, but they offer a different ride. The difference boils down to one word: SpeedRoll!

Simply put, the SpeedRoll design translates into a rocker that facilitates more efficient propulsion while running. The Triumph, on the other hand, has a traditional configuration (similar to a Nike Pegasus or NB 1080, for example). The result is a more responsive ride for the Speed 23, but let’s be clear: this may not appeal to all runners.

Finally, the weight is about the same on both shoes, 270 g/9.5 oz, which is quite light for daily trainers.

Shift or Triumph: Which One Should You Choose?

It’s really a personal choice, depending on your preferences. If you’re looking for a responsive ride with a nice rocker, the Shift is the way to go.

If you prefer a more traditional movement with a more subdued (yet effective) rocking motion, you will enjoy the Triumph more.

Lastly, if you have the budget, these are two interesting and complementary shoes for your rotation.
